چکیده

Attention to media has been widely studied. Often when studying attention, researchers have not distinguished to what the participants are attending – media form or media content of the presentation. This is also true of many studies on telepresence where the interaction of media form and content has been found to influence the sub-dimensions of telepresence reported by participants. However, several different elements of media form and content have been shown to be more helpful than others in bringing participants mediated worlds. In the current experiment, we use secondary task performance/reaction time (STRT) to measure attention to a media presentation and compare this attention measure to traditional self-report measures of Telepresence (Immersion, Social Reality, Spatial Presence, and Transportation) and Enjoyment. Further, we compare the STRT measure with the composite items of TelepresenceImmersion. The results indicate that STRT is a covariate, in the model with independent variables of Pace and Screen Size. Implications are discussed Keywords---Telepresence, Immersion, Attention, Secondary Task Reaction Time.

Utility of Situation Awareness and Attention for Describing Telepresence Experiences in a Virtual Teleoperation Task

The current study assessed the utility of measures of situation awareness (SA) and attention allocation for objectively describing telepresence. The concepts of SA and attention have been identified as cognitive constructs potentially underlying telepresence experiences. The motivation for this research was to establish an objective measure of telepresence and to further investigate the relatio...

Time Course of Attention during a Volleyball Jumping-Serve Using a Dual-Task Paradigm

In the present investigation we determined the time course of attention demands during the jumping service in volleyball by the dual-task paradigm. Fourteen voluntary junior elite volleyball players performed 60 jumping serve. Jumping-serve performance (JSP) as primary task and verbal reaction time (RT) to an auditory stimulus that was administered in four probe positions (PP), as secondary tas...

Predicting Normal People’s Reaction Time based on Hippocampal Local Efficiency During a Memory-Guided Attention Task

Background: There are some convincing shreds of evidence indicating that memory can direct attention. The local efficiency of an area in the brain, as a quantitative feature in a complex network, indicates how the surrounding nodes can transfer the information when a specific node is omitted. This feature is a scale for measuring efficient integration of information in the brain. Objectives:...
